Clean and Green 13
Clean and Green 13 is a project of the Muskoka Watershed Council that aims to inspire people to take a look at their every day lives and realize what kind of impact their actions have on the watersheds around them.
The Clean and Green 13 lists some positive steps that you can take right now to improve the health of your watershed.
Down to Earth Choices -Environment Canada
Down to Earth Choices is a guide from Environment Canada that offers hundreds of tips and suggestions on environmentally sensitive habits that individual Canadians can practice every day, everywhere.
Environment Canada also provides a website on making green choices: Take Action for the Environment.
David Suzuki Foundation
Since 1990, the David Suzuki Foundation has worked to find ways for society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us. Focusing on four program areas, Oceans and Sustainable Fishing, Forests and Wild Lands, Climate Change and Clean Energy, and the Web of Life, the Foundation uses science and education to promote solutions that help conserve nature.
The Nature Challenge
The David Suzuki Foundation has researched the most effective ways we can help conserve nature and improve our quality of life.
- Reduce home energy use by 10%
- Choose an energy-efficient home & appliances
- Don't use pesticides
- Eat meat-free meals one day a week
- Buy locally grown and produced food
- Choose a fuel-efficient vehicle
- Walk, bike, carpool or take transit
- Choose a home close to work or school
- Support alternative transportation
- Learn more and share with others
The Challenge is to pick at least three steps and sign up.

This Government of Canada website provides information on how you can:

Muskoka Heritage Foundation
The Muskoka Heritage Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the conservation of the built heritage and natural areas that define the unique identity of Muskoka.
To achieve its goal, the Muskoka Heritage Foundation:
- Identifies important natural areas in the District of Muskoka, alone or in cooperation with individuals, groups and government. Proposals are welcome from anyone who believes an area deserves protection.
- Acquires key properties through gift or purchase and retains ownership in perpetuity.
- Conserves private property through voluntary stewardship agreements and recognition.
- Encourages the private and government sectors to set aside important natural areas.
- Operates a conservation information centre that is open to the public, at its office located at 9 Taylor Road in Bracebridge, Ontario.
- Provides stewardship workshops and partners with other organizations with similar interests, including the District Municipality of Muskoka, Parry Sound-Muskoka Stewardship Network, the Ontario Nature Trust Alliance, Ducks Unlimited Canada and Ontario Nature.
International Dark-Sky Association
The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) is effective in providing information about stopping the adverse environmental impacts on dark skies by:
- Building awareness of the problem of light pollution and the solutions.
- Educating everyone about the value and effectiveness of quality nighttime lighting.
Quality outdoor lighting is the key!
Georgian Bay Land Trust
The Georgian Bay Land Trust (GBLT) is a not-for-profit, registered charity whose goal is to protect the uniqueness of the eastern shore and North Channel of Georgian Bay through the securement and on-going stewardship of land that has ecological, geological and historical importance.
The GBLT is one of 39 land trusts working in Ontario to protect important private land from development and loss of native habitats and flora and fauna.
Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation
The Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation is a community-based, non-profit organization committed to protecting the natural, built and cultural heritage of Lake of Bays.
The Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation encourages the protection of our heritage through:
- Education
- Voluntary stewardship
- Conservation easements
- Land donations
- Land acquisitions
