The Water treatment plant in Gravenhurst was constructed in 1983.
The treatment process consists of chemically assisted
coagulation-flocculation and direct filtration using dual
media filters with a combination of sand and anthracite coal.
Disinfection in a chlorine contact chamber followed by final
pH adjustment completes the treatment process. The water system
currently serves a population of approximately 7000 people. The
rated water production of the plant is 10,000 cubic meters per day.
The raw water source is Lake Muskoka. With the intake located
approximately 11.5 meters deep, about 1000 meters from shore.
